Dahlin family tree is an attempt to make it possible for the descendants
of Jan Andersson (1764–1844) to keep contact with each other although
they now are spread over the world. Jan lived in Dalkarlsberg
and worked at the mining field there, as a miner, smith, ore-weigher
and mine captain, for most of his life. Some of his children took
the name Dahlin around 1820. The name is of course taken from
the first part of the placename Dalkarlsberg (dal means valley
in Swedish).
When
I started this tree on the net in 1997 I had to make some limitations
so I started to follow only the sons, in other words those who
have passed on the family name Dahlin. A follow-up of all descendants
would of course have been a far more extensive work, but eventually
I intend to add those branches of the family tree too. But so
far you will find all male descendants here, but I know there
sure lacks a lot of information about many of them. So if you
would like to add something to the tree, whatever it might be,
please e-mail me and
I will add it as soon as possible.
Unfortunately
for those who don't understand Swedish most of the tree is still
only in Swedish. But more and more pages are being translated
to English as time allows (those with red generation numbers are
in English).
The
creator and webmaster of this tree is Håkan Henriksson in
Örebro, Sweden. I am of course also a descendant of Jan Andersson.
My mother's mother Stina Dahlin (1912–1996) was a daughter of
Julius Dahlin.
For
those who are interested in the area where the Dahlin family comes
from I have made a histrorical site about the Viker area in central
Sweden. It's humbly called Allt
om Viker (Everything about Viker).
